For some reason unknown to me the chill factor has been slowly walking into the distance away from us. Waving goodbye while a piano plays in the background. I wish that I could say otherwise however I am sure that if you are reading this you are already aware. It has become a sad state that the only time we can all gather and take pride in our community is when we are competing against one another for a shiny piece of plastic. Please do not confuse this with animosity however. As I love going to car shows, they are a vital part of the scene. Yet I long for the days where there were noticeable parts of the day, there was the sunrise, the meet at our local 24-hour Starbucks, followed by the sunset.

I am now very grateful that the call to just show up to BS in a parking lot is coming back towards us. McCord’s Vancouver Scion was great full enough to section off a part of the Vancouver Mall parking lot for people to come and hang out. No trophies, no need to detail, just sitting around .With the guys from NOS Energy Drink we here at PDXine organized NOS Pong (read: Beer Pong without the Beer); setting up a tournament and getting everyone from 5 to 50 to join in. After 4 rounds, 15 games and 50 cans of NOS energy drink two people stood above all the rest. Brandon Monson and Bruce Anderson from DO WORK walked away with 2 cases of NOS, as well as shirts, hats and all sorts of swag. After the dust of the tournament had settled prizes from Kingpin Car Audio, Race Dezign and more were given away. A few lucky visitors walked away with an HID kit and a couple of gift certificates.

After a fun day of shooting the breeze the event came to a close just as laid back as it had been. People waved goodbye and trotted out of the parking lot as if they were leaving the grocery store. No need to go wide open throttle to show off, just windows down and arms out. Maybe its not to late to shout out to the chill factor while it walks off. Maybe it will come back to for good. With people like McCord’s Vancouver Scion it certainly appears that way.
